  • Launched by the Indian Government and introduced by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. 
  • Was launched on 2nd October to honour Mahatma Gandhi's vision of clean India. 
  • It was orchestrated on the national level including urban and rural areas too.
  • It made people aware of the importance of cleanliness. 
  • The objective was to make people understand the importance of keeping the surrounding clean and eventually avoid the diseases which are caused because of it.
  • Various awareness programs were run in this campaign to educate people about managing waste and disposing of them in a proper manner. 
  • India needed this Abhiyan because of the lack of proper waste disposal mechanism and proper toilets, this helped in getting rid of dirtiness and diseases caused because of it.
