Define activity of a sample of a radioactive substance. The value of the disintegration constant of a radioactive substance is 0·0693 h-1 . Find the time after which the activity of a sample of this substance reduces to one-half that of its present value

Activity is the number of disintegrations per second.

\\R=R_0(\frac{1}{2})^{\frac{t}{\tau}}\\\\Given\ R=\frac{R_0}{2}\\\\Therefore

\\\frac{R_0}{2}=R_0(\frac{1}{2})^{\frac{t}{\tau}}\\\\\Rightarrow t=\tau=\frac{0.693}{\lambda}\\\\=\frac{0.693}{0.0693}=10\ hrs
