Bishnoi woman Amrita Devi showed an act of exemplary courage by hugging a tree to stop king’s men to cut her first before cutting the tree as the tree mattered much more to her than her own life, the tree was cut down along with Amrita Devi and later her three daughters & hundreds of other Bishnois lost their lives for saving trees along with other 350 Bishnoi for the cause of environment, this award is given to individuals or communities, who show extraordinary courage and dedication in protecting wildlife.
