First-generation used vacuum tubes but the second generation used transistors. 

The size of the first generation was very large and was knows as the mainframe, but the second generation was called mini computers and was relatively small. 

The speed of the second generation was 10 times faster than the first generation. 

RAM and ROM were used for memory in second-generation but Magnetic drums in form of memory were used in the first generation.
