Explain the structure of DNA​.

DNA is deoxyribonucleic acid which is made up of the molecules called nucleotides.And each of the nucleotides contains :

  • a phosphate group,
  • a sugar group and
  • a nitrogen base.

It consists of two strands because of which it is also called as double-stranded DNA which goes 5'-3' and 3'-5'. DNA consists of four types of nitrogen bases in which two are purines and rest two are pyrimidines and these four types of nitrogen bases are :

  1. Adenine (A),
  2. Thymine (T),
  3. Guanine (G) and
  4. Cytosine (C)
