let P (x,y) be equidistant from points A(1,4) and B (-1,2) 

AP = BP 

USing distance formula 

( x-1 ) ^2 + ( y-4 )^2 = ( x+1 ) ^2 + ( y-2 )^ 2 \\\\ x^2 +1 -2x + y^2 + 16 -8y = x^2 + 1 + 2x + y^2 + 4 - 4y \\\\ -2x - 8y + 17 = 2x - 4y + 5 \\\\ - 4x = 4 y -12 \\\\ x + y = 3
