The steps are following: 

  • The given point is (x1, y1).
  • As we plot the point (x1, y1) in the xy-plane, we go x1 units length on the x-axis.
  • Then we go vertically upwards or vertically downwards parallel to the y-axis according to y1 being positive or negative respectively.
  • As we are going upwards or downwards, we can say that we have found a point (x1, 0) on the x-axis and then we plot (x1, y1) by moving vertically.
  • Therefore the required foot of the perpendicular of the point (x1, y1) on the x-axis is (x1, 0).
