# For the circuit shown in the figure, how would the balancing length be affected, if(i) $R_{1}$ is decreased,(ii) $R_{2}$ is increased, the other factors remaining the same in the circuit? Justify your answer in each case.

(a) (i) When $R_{1}$ is decreased the balancing length decreases

Justification:- Such that, when $R_{1}$ is decreased, I through the potentiometer increases and Hence potential gradient increases. therefore balancing length decrease.

(ii) $R_{2}$ is increased, balancing length also increases.

Justification:- Such that, when $R_{2}$ is increased, current

$I=\frac{E}{r+R_{2}}$

decreases, then voltage $(V) =E-Ir$ increases and hence balancing length increases.

(b) At balance, potentiometer draws no current from voltage source and hence the measurement of emf (electromotive force) and Potential difference will be more accurate.
