n and p regionsof Zener diode is heavily doped so that the depletion region formed is very thin and electric field at the junction is extremely high even for a small reverse bias voltage.

I=\frac{V}{R}

Here, I=\frac{20-15}{250}=\frac{1}{50}=0.2 \; A

Now, the current through the resistor of 1\; K\; \Omega is ;

I=\frac{15}{1000}=0.015\; Ampere

Therefore the current through the Zener diode will be-

I=0.02-0.015

I=0.005\; A
