If a glass prism is dipped in water, its dispersive power

Answers (1)

The dispersion decreases. When light enters from air to glass already disperses slightly and when this light enters to a glass prism the dispersion will be less as compared to the dispersion in air and glass prism.

The deviation is

 \delta =(\mu -1)A

since the relative refractive index between air and glass is greater than that of water and air the deviation of light is less for glass and water interface. Therefore dispersion decreases.
