In Geiger-Marsden scattering experiment, the trajectory of \alpha-particles in Coulomb’s field of a heavy nucleus is shown in the figure.

(a) What do ‘b’ and '\theta '  represent in the figure ?

a) b represents impact parameter and \theta represents scattering angle
(b)for\ \theta=0^0 impact parameter is larger

for\ \theta=180^0 the impact parameter is zero.
