A registered party is recognized as a national party only if it fulfills any one of the three conditions listed below-
1- A party should win 2% of seats in the Lok Sabha from at least three different states.
2- A party should win 6% of votes in any four or more states and in addition it wins four Lok Sabha seats.
3- A party gets recognition as a state party in four seats.
Currently there are 8 national parties in India. These parties are following-
1- Bhartiya Janta Party- (BJP)
2- Bahujan Samajwadi Party- (BSP)
3- Indian National Congress- (INA)
4- Communist Party of India- (CPI)
5- Communist Party of India (Marxist)- CPI(M)
6- National People's Party- (NPP)
7- All India Trinamool Congress- (AITC) popularly known as (TMC)
8- National Congress Party- (NCP)
A national party can derecognised if it fails to maintain criteria.
