On dividing a number by 5, we get 3 as remainder. What will the remainder when the square of the this number is divided by 5 ?

Assume the number is a and hold below equality.

a = 5xb + 3

a2 = ( 5xb + 3)2

a2 = 25b2 + 9 + 30b

a2 = 5(5b2 + 1 + 6b) + 4

Hence when ais divided by 5 it will give 4 as remainder.
