Answers (1)

1(a) KCl shows schottky defect because size of cation \left [ K \right ]^+ and anion \left [Cl\right ]^- are similar in size.

1(b) On heating ZnO, it loses oxygen and turns yellow. The excess of Zn^{2+} ions thus formed get trapped into the vacant interstitial sites and the electrons in the neighbouring interstitial sites.

ZnO\rightarrow Zn^{2+}+\frac{1}{2}O_2+2e^-.
