Show that the following points form an isosceles triangle. (1, 3), ( - 3, - 5) and ( - 3, 0)

Answers (1)

Let the given points be A (1,3), B(-3,-5), C(-3,0)

AB=\sqrt{(-3-1)^2+(-5-3)^2}=\sqrt{(4)^2+(8)^2}=\sqrt{84}units

BC=\sqrt{(-3-(-3))^2+(0-(-5))^2}=\sqrt{(0)^2+(5)^2}=\sqrt{25}=5units

AC=\sqrt{(-3-1)^2+(-5-3)^2}=\sqrt{(-4)^2+(-8)^2}=\sqrt{20+64}=\sqrt{84}units

AB=AC. That is two sides of the triangles are equal. Therefore the given triangle is an isosceles triangle.
