Stars which appear single to the naked eye but are double when seen through a telescope are called binaries. Binary star systems comprises of two stars that revolve each other in their own gravitational force of attraction. But since these are so far away, they appear single to naked eye.

For example: Castor, Algol, Beta Lyrae, etc.
