The figure shows a network of five capacitors connected to a 10V battery. Calculate the charge acquired by 5 \mu F capacitor.

15\mu F and 5\mu F capacitors are parallel.

So resultant capacitance is 15+5 = 20 \mu F

10 \mu F and 10 \mu F capacitors are parallel,

So resultant capacitance is 10+10 = 20\mu F

In parallel connection potential difference is same and in series connection potential difference is different. Similarly in series connection charges on each capacitor are same.

The potential difference across 5 \mu F and 15 \mu F are 5V.

So charge acquired by 5 capacitors is,

Q = CV

    = 5 \times 5

    = 25 \mu F
