Two pipes A and B can fill a tank in 15 minutes and 20 minutes respectively. Both the pipes are opened together but after 4 minutes, pipe A is turned off. What is the total time required to fill the tank?

Pipe A fill the tank in one minute = 1/15 part of tank

Pipe B fill the tank in one minute = 1/20 part of tank

Pipes A+B fill the tank in one minute = 1/15 + 1/20 = 7/60 part of tank

Pipes A+B fill the tank in four minutes = 28/60 part of tank

Remaining work = 1-28/60 = 32/60 part of tank

Now time taken by B to fill the tank = 32x15/60 = 8 minutes

Total time taken to fill this tank = 4 + 8 = 12 minutes.
