Two squares, with lengths 4 cm and 6 cm respectively, are partially overlapped . What is the difference between shaded area of the small square and shaded area of the big square?

Answers (1)

Let, Length of side of square is 'a' cm                   In picture, Legth of 1 small sqaure =1cm

then Area of square = a^2

If length of side is 4cm  then Area of that square=4^2=16 cm^2

If length of side is 6cm then Area of that square=6^2=36cm^2

Area of shaded region = Area of square with length 6 cm - Area of sqaure with length 4cm=36-16=20 cm^2

So, difference between area of big sqaure and small square is 20 cm^2
