A state is divided into several constituencies on the basis of population. Constituency is the area represented by a particular MLA. Every constituency elects one representative for the Legislative Assembly. An MLA is elected through a general election. He/She may be a member of a recognised political party or independent. One who gets the maximum votes becomes the MLA of that constituency.
