Using factor theorem show that (y+3) is a factor of f(y) = y4 + y3 – 7y2 – y+6.

Answers (1)

If (y+3) is a factor of f(y) = y4 + y3 – 7y2 – y+6 then f(-3) = 0

f(-3) = (-3)4 + (-3)3 – 7(-3)2 –(-3)+6

f(-3) = 81 - 27 - 63 + 3 + 6

f(-3) = 0

Hence (y+3) is factor of f(y) = y4 + y3 – 7y2 – y+6 .
