The great king Krishna Devaraya was born on 16 February 1471 AD in Hampi, Karnataka. His father's name was Tuluva Narsa Nayak and mother's name was Nagla Devi.
The achievement of Krishna Devaraya puts him at par with the great emperors Yudhishthira, Porus, Chandragupta, Ashoka and Harshavardhana. Wherever Emperor Krishna Devaraya went, he renovated ancient temples that had been destroyed by the invaders or turned into ruins. Many temples were built up to Rajagopuram, Rameshwaram, Rajamahendrapuram, Anantapur. The Vijayanagara architectural style was promoted and practiced as a result of his temple construction. Many books have been published on this genre.Krishna Devaraya was also a great builder. He built a grand Ram temple and Hajar Mandir (Temple of Thousand Pillars) at Vijayanagara.In the field of architecture, Krishna Devaraya had established a new city named 'Nagalpur'. He also got the temples constructed by Hazara and Vithalaswamy.He had built a big dam on Tugabhadra. Constructed the canal. Being religious himself and a devotee of Vishnu, he encouraged temple art. He had created a huge market for the artists and architects of the state.
Emperor Krishna Devaraya largely incorporated the traditional Indian principles and rules of state power in his administrative reforms that were propounded by sages such as Kautilya, Shukra, Bhishma and Vidura. Although he was the head of state as a monarch, he also had a council of ministers to guide policy, headed by a prime minister named Salwa Timma. Foreign travelers like 'Barbosa', 'Paas' and 'Nuniz' have talked about his superior administration and the prosperity of the empire during his reign.
