Inter-state water disputes are caused because of disagreement over the resources of river, river flow direction, dams and their usage between two states.

Every state claims more  rights  on the resources and wants to share only when they have fufilled their needs from the water resources.

Some examples of Interstate water disputes are:

  • The Krishna - Godavari water dispute - Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
  •     The Kaveri river water dispute - Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry
