TCP/IP: 

Protocols designed to interconnect network devices on the internet.

There are 4 layers in it : 

  1. Process/Application Layer
  2. Host-to-Host/Transport Layer
  3. Internet Layer
  4. Network Access/Link Layer 

Advantages: 

  1. Can be deployed in practical networking problems as is an industry-standard model
  2. allows cross-platform communications. 
  3. Is an open protocol suite, no one owns it. 
  4. assigns an IP address to each computer on the network to identify them.
