What is the difference between homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures?

A homogeneous mixture is a mixture having a uniform composition throughout the mixture. Example: salt in water or sugar in water.

Whereas, a heterogeneous mixture is a mixture having a non-uniform composition throughout the mixture. example: sodium chloride and iron fillings etc.
