What Oersted observed regarding magnetic field

Answers (1)

In 1820 Danish Physicist Hans Christan Oersted during a demonstration noticed that a current-carrying straight wire causes deflection on a nearby compass needle. He observed that when current is reversed orientation of needle also reverses. When the value of the current is increased in the wire the amount of needle deflection also increases. From the observation, he concluded that moving charges can produce a magnetic field and this field is responsible for deflection of the needle.
