Historical novel novel is that genre of literature in which the famous story of any particular period is depicted. By the way, the depiction of any particular period can be a historical novel. Rangbhoomi, Boond and Samudra, False Truth and Uttarkatha can also be historical novels, being authentic depictions of their era; But there is an essential condition for being a historical novel - its story should be famous, the readers should be familiar with it.The modern form of the novel developed in India in the nineteenth century. Initially Indian writers started translating English novels. But when this work did not give them satisfaction, many writers started writing novels on their language and social environment here. The first novels were written in Bengali and Marathi languages. The first novel in the Marathi language was Baba Padmanji's Yamuna Tourism (1857). Then came Laxman Moresar Halbe's Muktmala (1861). In the nineteenth century, many novelists contributed greatly to the creation of the modern literature of India. Through many novels, an attempt was made to infuse nationalist sentiment among the people of India and people should not consider themselves less than the colonial rulers.Bhartendu Harishchandra encouraged the poets and writers of his circle to translate novels into other languages. But the credit of writing the first Hindi novel goes to Srinivas Das of Delhi. The title of that novel was Pariksha Guru (1882); which depicts the conflict between the culture of the East and the West. Due to this novel being a bit preachy, the readers do not get much brother.
Devaki Nandan Khatri won the hearts of Hindi readers with his creations. His most popular book was Chandralekha. This novel made the Hindi language and Devanagari script very popular among the elite. Premchand took the Hindi novel to a new height with his works. Premchand used to write in Urdu earlier but later switched to Hindi. His works were deeply influenced by the traditional art of storytelling. The biggest feature of his works was his simple language. Premchand had portrayed people from every section of the society.
