Why does rain occurs first in Shillong and then in kolkata ??

There are 2 main reasons why Shillong receives first and more rain than Kolkata. Shilong is at a higher altitude than Kolkata and because of the presence of hills the monsoon gets obstructed it rains in Shillong also Kolkata is west to Shillong and the rainfall tends to decrease from East to West in North India.
