In the first case           

\mathrm{\frac{\varepsilon}{8+r} \times 8=K \times 3}         .................(1)

In the second case

\mathrm{\frac{\varepsilon}{4+r} \times 4=K\times2}            .................(2)

Solve (1) and (2)

\mathrm{r=8\Omega}

Hence the answer is \mathrm{8\Omega}
