Alumino-thermite process: Certain Oxides of Mn, Cr do not reduce by carbon due to the very high melting point. So for them, aluminium which is more reactive metal is used. This process is called the thermic process or alumino-thermic process. Therefore, aluminum is used in place of carbon and it acts as a reducing agent.
