An ammeter and a voltmeter are connected in series to a battery with emf E=6 \mathrm{~V} nd negligible resistance. when a resistance R=3 \Omega  is connected in parallel to voltmeter, reading of ammeter increares three times while that of voltmeter reduces to one third. Reading of voltmeter after the connection of resistance is

Option: 1

1 \mathrm{~V}

Option: 2

3 \mathrm{~V}

Option: 3

\frac{9}{2} \mathrm{~V}

Option: 4

Let voltage across voltmeter is x volt.

\mathrm{Then\, 6-x=I \cdot R_{A}\quad-(1)}
\mathrm{and \: 6-\frac{x}{3}=3 I R_{A}\quad -(2)}

Divide (1) & (2)
\mathrm{\Rightarrow \frac{6-x}{6-\frac{x}{3}}=\frac{1}{3} \Rightarrow 18-3 x=6-\frac{x}{3}}.
\mathrm{\Rightarrow \frac{8}{3} x=12 \Rightarrow x=\frac{9}{2} \mathrm{~V}}.

After the connection Reading of voltmeter is
\mathrm{\frac{x}{3}=\frac{3}{2} V }.
