Zener diode -

It can operate continuously without being damaged in the region of reverse  biased

- wherein

1) It acts as voltage regulator

2) In forward biasing it act as ordinary diode .

 

 potential diffrence across R_{2}=10V

 potential diffrence acrossR_{1}=5V

current through R_{1}=5/500=0.01A

current through R_{2}=10/1500=0.01A=1/150

current through zener diode = 1/100-1/150 = \frac{3-2}{300}=1/300=3.3mA
