As we learnt in 

Atomic Mass Unit -

amu is used to measure mass of individual atoms.

- wherein

mass of one atom of Helium= 4 amu

Today, ‘amu’ has been replaced by ‘u’ which is known as unified mass.

 

The present system of atomic mass is based on Carbon - 12 as the standard and has been agreed upon in 1961.
