Half-time of a reaction \mathrm{t_{1 /2}=[A o]^{1-n}} where Ao is initial concentration of reactant and \mathrm{n}  is order of reaction with respect to that reactant.

Since, the half-life gets  \mathrm{1 / 4^{\text {th }}} on halving the initial concentration, the half-life is inversely proportional to square of initial concentration.
\mathrm{ \Rightarrow 1-n=-2 }
\mathrm{ \Rightarrow n=3 }
Hence, it is a third order reaction.
