The numbers between 9999 and 100000 are all 5-digit numbers.

To find the total number of 5-digit numbers having at least one of their digits as 8.

The total number of 5-digit numbers is 100000-9999=90001

The total number of 5-digit numbers in which 8 does not appear at all is,

8\times 9\times 9\times9\times 9 =52488

Thus,

The total number of 5-digit numbers having at least one of their digits as 8 = (Total numbers of 5-digit numbers) – (Total number of 5-digit numbers in which 8 does not appear at all)

90001-52488=37513

Therefore, the total number of 5-digit numbers having at least one of their digits as 8 is 37513.
