A uniform circular disc of radius r is placed on a rough horizontal surface and given a linear velocity vo and angular velocity w_0 as shown. The disc comes to rest after moving some distance to the right. It follows that

  • Option 1)

    3v_0=2w_0r

  • Option 2)

    2v_0=w_0r

  • Option 3)

    v_0=w_0r

  • Option 4)

As we discussed concept

Law of conservation of angular moment -

\vec{\tau }= \frac{\vec{dL}}

- wherein

If net torque is zero

i.e. \frac{\vec{dL}}= 0

\vec{L}= constant

angular momentum is conserved only when external torque is zero .

 Angular momentum about P is conserved

L_{i}=mv_{o}r-I_{o}w{o}

L_{f}=0

\therefore mv_{o}r=I_{o}w_{o}

mv_{o}r=\frac{mr^{2}}{2}wo

=>2v_{o}=w_{0}r

Option 1)

3v_0=2w_0r

This is incorrect option

Option 2)

2v_0=w_0r

This is correct option

Option 3)

v_0=w_0r

This is incorrect option

Option 4)

2v_0=3w_0r

This is incorrect option
