If in the circuit, power dissipation is 150 W, then R is

  • Option 1)

    2\Omega \;

  • Option 2)

    \; 6\Omega\;

  • Option 3)

    \; \; 5\Omega\;

  • Option 4)

    \; 4\Omega

Answers (2)

As we learnt in

if R=r -

P_{max}=\frac{E^{2}}{4r}

- wherein

Power delivered will be maximum

 and

Parallel Grouping -

Potential - Same

Current - Different

- wherein

The equivalent resistance is Re_{2}= \frac{2\times R}{2+R}

Power dissipation P= \frac{v^{2}}{R}

150 = \frac{15\times 15}{Re_{2}}

= Re_{2} = \frac{15}{10}= \frac{3}{2}

\frac{2R}{2+R} = \frac{3}{2}

\Rightarrow 4R = 6+3R

R = 6\Omega

Option 1)

2\Omega \;

This option is incorrect.

Option 2)

\; 6\Omega\;

This option is correct.

Option 3)

\; \; 5\Omega\;

This option is incorrect.

Option 4)

\; 4\Omega

This option is incorrect.
