There is a uniform electrostatic field in a region.  The potential at various points on a small sphere centred at P, in the region, is found to vary between the limits 589.0 V to 589.8 V.  What is the potential at a point on the sphere whose radius vector makes an angle of 600 with the direction of the field ?

  • Option 1)

    589.5 V

  • Option 2)

    589.2 V

  • Option 3)

     589.4 V

  • Option 4)

    589.6 V

As we learnt in

Relation between field and potential -

E=\frac{-dv}{dr}

- wherein

\frac{dv}{dr} -   Potential gradient.

  Potential gradient is given by

\Delta V= E\cdot d \, \, \, \, \, \, \Rightarrow 0.8= E\cdot d\, \, \, \left ( maximum)

\Delta V= E\cdot d cos\Theta = 0.8\times cos \, 60^{0} =0.4

Hence maximum potential at a point on the sphere =589.4 V

Option 1)

589.5 V

Incorrect Option

Option 2)

589.2 V

Correct Option

Option 3)

 589.4 V

Incorrect Option

Option 4)

589.6 V

Incorrect Option
