(1)  In ruby, the gemstone has Cr^{3+} ions occupying the octahedral sites of Aluminium oxide \left ( Al_{2}O_{3} \right ),Cr^{3+} ion normally occupied by Al^{3+} ion 

\left [ Ni\left ( NH_{3} \right ) _{4}\left ( H_{2}O \right )_{2}\right ]^{2+}\rightarrow N_{1}^{12+}\rightarrow 3d^{8}=2\; unpaired\; e^{s}\Rightarrow \mu _{m}=\sqrt{n\left ( n+2 \right )}=\; \; 2.83\; B.M

(3) The complementary colour of violet is yellow.
