Consider the following reaction :
\text { A }+\text { alkali } \rightarrow \text { B (Major Product) }

If \mathrm{B} is an oxoacid of phosphorus with no \mathrm{P}-\mathrm{H} bond, then \mathrm{A} is :

Option: 1

\mathrm{White \: \mathrm{P}_{4}}

Option: 2

\operatorname{Red} \mathrm{P}_{4}

Option: 3

\mathrm{P}_{2} \mathrm{O}_{3}

Option: 4

\mathrm{H}_{3} \mathrm{PO}_{3}

Answers (1)

best_answer

\mathrm{A+alkali \rightarrow B\left ( major\: product \right )}

Given , B is an oxoacid of phosphorus with no P-H bond, the reaction is ---

\mathrm{Red \: P_{4}+alkali \rightarrow H_{4}P_{2}O_{6}}

Hence , \mathrm{A= Red \: P_{4}}

It is to be noted that \mathrm{White ~P_4} reacts with alkali to form \mathrm{H_3PO_2} which contains \mathrm{P-H} bond.

Option (2) is correct
