Consider the resonating structures due to the Mesomeric effect of the chloro group

The stability of the resonating structures is given in

Option: 1

\mathrm{(I) > (II)> (III)}

Option: 2

\mathrm{(II) > (I)> (III)}

Option: 3

\mathrm{(I) > (III)> (II)}

Option: 4

\mathrm{(III) > (I)> (II)}

Structure (I) is the most stable as it has a complete octet of all the species involved and also there is no charge separation

Structure (II) also has a complete octet of all the involved species but there is charge separation due to which it is less stable than (I)

Structure (III) has an incomplete octet of the Carbon atom. Hence, it is the least stable

Therefore, the correct answer is Option (1)
