Diamond has a face centred cubic structure of Carbon atoms with Carbon atoms also occupying the alternate Tetrahedral voids in the lattice.

\begin{aligned}\\\text{Thus, number of C atoms} & =8 \times \frac{1}{8}+6 \times \frac{1}{2}+8 \times \frac{1}{2}\\ &=1+3+4 \\ &=8 \end{aligned}
