For the circuit shown in the figure:

Option: 1

Current through zener diode is $4 \mathrm{mA}$

Option: 2

Current through zener diode is $9 \mathrm{mA}$

Option: 3

The output voltage is $60 \mathrm{V}$

Option: 4

The output voltage is $40 \mathrm{V}$

Answers (1)

Here , \mathrm{I}=\frac{70}{5000}=1.4 \times 10^{-2} \mathrm{A}

\begin{aligned} \mathrm{V}_{\mathrm{Z}} &=120-70 \\ &=50 \mathrm{V} \end{aligned} (output voltage Across diode)

\begin{aligned} \mathrm{I}_{\mathrm{L}}=& \frac{50}{10000}=5 \times 10^{-3} \mathrm{A}=0.5 \times 10^{-2} \mathrm{A} \\ \Rightarrow \quad \mathrm{I}_{\mathrm{Z}}=&(1.4-0.5) \times 10^{-2} \mathrm{A} \\=& 9 \times 10^{-3} \mathrm{A} \\ &=9 \mathrm{mA} \end{aligned}

Therefore (2) is the correct option.
