On heating with \text{KHSO}_{4}, glycerol is dehydrated and acrolein is formed which has a pungent odour.

This is the test for glycerol present either free or combined as an ester.

Acrolein has pugent odour not fruity. So, statement I is correct but statement II Incorrect.
