v = \sqrt{\frac{\gamma RT}{M}} \Rightarrow v \alpha \sqrt{\frac{\gamma }{M}}

Since {\frac{\gamma }{M}} is maximum for H2 so sound velocity is maximum in H2 .

 

Effect of pressure on speed of sound -

For ideal gas

\frac{P}{\rho }= \frac{RT}{M}= constant

- wherein

With change in pressure, the density also changes so pressure has no effect on speed of sound.
