$\frac{P}{Q}=\frac{R}{S}\Rightarrow S= \frac{(100-l)}{l}R$

$AB=l$

$BC=(100-l)$

For meter bridge balanced condition

$\frac{R}{X}=\frac{l}{100-l}$

=> ${X}=R(\frac{100-l}{l})$

for (1) ${X}=10^{3}\times \frac{40}{60}=666\Omega$

for (2) ${X}=10^{2}\times \frac{87}{13}=669\Omega$

for (3) ${X}=10\times \frac{98.5}{1.5}=656\Omega$

for (4) ${X}=1\times \frac{99}{1}=99\Omega$

From this , we can conclude that observation (4) is inconsistent.
