\frac{P}{Q}=\frac{R}{S}\Rightarrow S= \frac{(100-l)}{l}R

- wherein

AB=l

BC=(100-l)

 

 For meter bridge balanced condition

\frac{R}{X}=\frac{l}{100-l}

=> {X}=R(\frac{100-l}{l})

for (1) {X}=10^{3}\times \frac{40}{60}=666\Omega

for (2) {X}=10^{2}\times \frac{87}{13}=669\Omega

for (3) {X}=10\times \frac{98.5}{1.5}=656\Omega

for (4) {X}=1\times \frac{99}{1}=99\Omega

From this , we can conclude that observation (4) is inconsistent.
