A standard deck contains 12 face cards, so there are 12 ways to choose one.

Because there are 13 diamonds in a standard deck, there are 13 ways to choose one.

We don't need to know whether the first card was a diamond or not, and we don't need to know whether the second card is a face card or not.

Therefore, the number of ways to pick a face card is \mathrm{12\times 13=156.}
