For potentiometer,

\mathrm{ E=\phi l }

\mathrm{ \phi \rightarrow }potential gradient

\mathrm{ l \rightarrow }Balancing length

\mathrm{ \frac{E_1}{E_2}=\frac{l_1}{l_2} }

\mathrm{ \frac{1.2}{1.8}=\frac{36}{l_2} }

\mathrm{ l_2=\frac{36 \times 1.8}{1.2} }

\mathrm{ l_2=54 \mathrm{~cm} }
The difference in balancing length of potentiometer wire in above conditions will be \mathrm{l_2-l_1=18 \mathrm{~cm}}
