As we have learnt,

Electron affinity generally increases on moving from left to right in a period and decreases from top to bottom down a group. However, the elements of 3rd period have a greater electron affinity than their 2nd period counterparts because of small size of 2nd period elements. This small size causes inter electronic repulsions, leading to a decrease in the electron affinity.
