In Clark's method, temporary hardness is removed by adding Slaked Lime Ca(OH)2.

Ca (HCO3)2 + Ca (OH)\rightarrow2CaCO+ 2H2O

Mg (HCO3)2 + Ca (OH)\rightarrowCaCO+MgCO+ 2H2O

The carbonates formed are insoluble and are separated by filteration.
